Hims GLP‑1 Weight Loss Review: Is It Legit?

Is Hims legit for weight loss? Its FDA letter, FTC suit and DOJ referral, dated. Cost: $149/mo membership plus Wegovy pill $149, pen $199, Zepbound $299.

Last updated Oct 26, 2026
Quick answer

Hims is an online GLP-1 program that prescribes brand-name, FDA-approved medication only: Zepbound, Wegovy, Ozempic and Foundayo. Plans start at $149 a month. We rate it 7.1/10 (Good). It names the pharmacies that fill its prescriptions: Apostrophe Pharmacy LLC, XeCare LLC, EHT Pharmacy LLC, CD Pharmacy LLC, Strive Specialties, Inc., Gifthealth, Inc. and AnazaoHealth Corporation. Hims has an FDA warning letter on file, so we do not recommend it.

Hims is run by Hims & Hers Health, Inc., a publicly traded telehealth company in San Francisco, and its weight-loss menu lists only FDA-approved, brand-name GLP-1s. It also has an open FDA warning letter dated September 9, 2025, a lawsuit the FTC filed on July 29, 2026, and a referral to the Justice Department announced on February 6, 2026. None has a published outcome as of October 24, 2026.

For weight loss, Hims prescribes the Wegovy pill and pen, Zepbound, the Foundayo pill and, off-label, Ozempic. The Hims Weight Loss Membership is $39 for the first month, then $149 a month, and the medication is billed on top, from $149 a month. At the starting dose, the Wegovy pill or Foundayo costs $298 a month in all from month two, the Wegovy pen $348 and Zepbound $448.

We rate it 7.1 out of 10, tier Good, with low confidence. It sells only FDA-approved drugs on its weight-loss menu and names its pharmacies, but its drug prices are the makers' own starting prices with $149 added, it publishes no price above the starting dose, and it has an open FDA warning letter and a pending FTC lawsuit.

The catch is the fee. Hims charges the same starting prices for the drug that the makers charge on their own cash programs: $149 for the Wegovy pill and $299 for Zepbound at 2.5 mg. The $149 a month buys the care, not a cheaper drug.

It’s for you if
  • You want an FDA-approved GLP-1, as a pill or a pen, rather than a compounded one.
  • You want monthly check-ins and unlimited messaging with a provider in one app.
  • You want a choice of drugs, including the Foundayo pill with no food rules.
It’s not for you if
  • You want the lowest price: the drug costs the same starting price as the maker's own program, plus $149 a month.
  • You want to know your price at a higher dose before you start.
  • You want a refund if you stop partway through a month.
  • You want insurance billing.

What is Hims?

Hims is the men's telehealth brand of Hims & Hers Health, Inc., which also runs Hers for women; both share one set of terms. Hims & Hers is not a medical provider. The prescribing is done by affiliated medical groups, the "You Health" professional corporations, whose providers are licensed in your state.

The weight-loss menu has five brand-name drugs: the Wegovy pill and pen, the Zepbound vial and KwikPen, the Foundayo pill, and the Ozempic pen and pill. Ozempic and Mounjaro are approved for type 2 diabetes, and Hims says a provider may prescribe them on clinical judgment. Since March 2026, Hims no longer advertises compounded GLP-1s. Compounded GLP-1s are prepared by a pharmacy to a prescription, and they are not FDA-approved; the safety section explains what that means.

It suits you if you want an FDA-approved drug, care in an app and one company handling the prescription.

Hims weight loss costs a $149 monthly membership ($39 the first month) plus the medication, which starts at $149 a month. Medication is "not available without a membership", and the membership "does not include or guarantee a prescription".

The starting prices for the medication alone, as listed on October 24, 2026:

  • Wegovy pill: from $149 a month
  • Foundayo pill: from $149 a month
  • Ozempic pill: from $149 a month
  • Wegovy pen: from $199 a month
  • Ozempic pen: from $199 a month
  • Zepbound vial or KwikPen: from $299 a month

Add the $149 membership to each one. The Wegovy pill is $298 a month in all from month two; three months cost $784, of which $337 is membership. Zepbound at the starting dose is $448 a month.

Hims publishes only the starting price. Its FAQ says "Pricing may vary by dosage." As the dose rises, the drug price can rise, and Hims does not list what it becomes.

The membership is not covered by insurance, and Hims does not bill insurance. The medication fee is FSA and HSA eligible; the membership fee is not. The membership includes a smart scale, monthly check-ins and partner discounts.

Hims semaglutide price: Wegovy and Ozempic

Hims sells semaglutide only as brand-name Wegovy and Ozempic, which it added on March 26, 2026. The Wegovy pill starts at $149 a month and the Wegovy pen at $199, plus the membership: $188 or $238 in the first month, then $298 or $348 a month at the starting dose. The Ozempic pill starts at $149 and the Ozempic pen at $199; Ozempic is approved for type 2 diabetes, not weight loss. Novo Nordisk's own cash price for the Wegovy pill also starts at $149.

Compounded semaglutide is not on the price list. Hims says it still offers it "on a limited scale" when a provider finds it clinically necessary.

Hims Zepbound and tirzepatide price

Hims sells tirzepatide as brand-name Zepbound, from $299 a month for the vial or KwikPen, plus the membership: $338 in the first month and $448 a month after, at the starting dose. LillyDirect lists Zepbound vials and the KwikPen from $299 at 2.5 mg up to $449 at higher doses, on the first fill and on refills within 45 days. Hims lists Mounjaro and the Zepbound single-dose pen at $1,899 a month, with no starting-dose price.

What to watch

The membership is $149 a month on top of the drug, which Hims prices from the maker's own cash price, and the FTC is suing Hims & Hers over billing before a provider review, hard cancellation and sharing health data. Its September 2025 FDA warning letter has no close-out.

Is Hims legit?

Hims has an open FDA warning letter dated September 9, 2025, the FTC sued Hims & Hers on July 29, 2026, and on February 6, 2026 the Department of Health and Human Services said it would refer Hims & Hers to the Justice Department; none of the three has been resolved. It is a large, publicly traded company that names its pharmacies and medical groups in its terms.

The letter is about marketing, not drug quality. The FDA reviewed hims.com in August 2025 and objected to two claims about compounded semaglutide: "Same active ingredient as Ozempic and Wegovy" and "Clinically proven ingredients". The FDA said these claims "imply that your products are the same as an FDA-approved product when they are not." Hims stopped advertising compounded GLP-1s in March 2026, and its weight-loss pages now list only FDA-approved drugs. The FDA has published no close-out.

The FTC lawsuit is about billing and privacy. The FTC, Utah and California allege that Hims & Hers "fails to clearly disclose that it charges consumers for prescriptions almost immediately after they submit an intake form", made canceling hard, and shared health information with advertising platforms. Those are allegations; the case is pending and Hims & Hers disputes them.

The referral followed the FDA's statement of the same day, which named Hims & Hers among companies mass-marketing compounded GLP-1s. No outcome has been published. The safety section has the full FDA record.

The pharmacies are named. The terms list Apostrophe Pharmacy and XeCare, both owned by Hims & Hers, plus Curexa, Red Rock Pharmacy, AnazaoHealth and Strive Specialties. Drugs from a maker's self-pay program that these pharmacies don't carry go through Gifthealth, an independent pharmacy. The terms give no address for any of them, so we could not match them to FDA records.

Does Hims offer GLP‑1 pills?

Yes. Hims sells three GLP-1 pills: the Wegovy pill and the Foundayo pill, both FDA-approved for weight loss, and the Ozempic pill, approved for type 2 diabetes. Each starts at $149 a month for the drug, plus the $149 membership.

The pills differ in how you take them. Hims says Foundayo has "No rules around food, water, or timing."

Hims Wegovy pill

The Wegovy pill Hims sells is Novo Nordisk's FDA-approved drug, available through Hims since March 26, 2026. It starts at $149 a month, the same as Novo Nordisk's own cash price, and costs $298 a month with the membership from month two.

It is not the pill Hims launched in February 2026. That was a compounded semaglutide pill at $49, which Hims withdrew on February 7, the day after the FDA said it would act against compounded GLP-1s mass-marketed by companies including Hims & Hers.

How does Hims work?

You join the membership and answer an online health intake. A provider reviews it and decides whether a GLP-1 fits you. Hims says "Depending on your state, treatment may be determined without a video visit." If you are prescribed, the medication ships from a pharmacy, and Hims says you can start "as soon as this week."

The care runs through the app. The terms say the membership includes "an initial telehealth medical evaluation, routine clinical check-ins (once per month), clinical visits for medication and dosage adjustments (as needed for prescribed medication), and unlimited Provider messaging". Hims also offers a members' community and a Care Team for side effects.

You can ask for a dose change in the app, and a provider decides; "Dosage and titration vary based on provider discretion." Hims includes a generic anti-nausea medicine at no extra cost if a provider prescribes it. No clinician is named on the weight-loss pages, and Hims does not state how long the first review takes.

Hims says its GLP-1s are "not yet available in all 50 states" and publishes no list; the intake checks your state.

Two subscriptions run side by side: the membership and the medication plan. Canceling the medication plan does not cancel the membership, which keeps billing until you cancel it too.

Is Hims safe? FDA status and warning letters

Hims has an open FDA warning letter, MARCS-CMS 716567, dated September 9, 2025, addressed to Hims & Hers Health, Inc. dba Hims. It concerns claims about compounded semaglutide on hims.com and names no safety, sterility or quality finding. There is no published close-out.

The FDA named Hims & Hers again on February 6, 2026, when it said it would act against compounded GLP-1s "mass-marketed by companies — including Hims & Hers". The same day, the general counsel of the Department of Health and Human Services said Hims & Hers would be referred to the Justice Department; no outcome has been published. Hims withdrew its compounded semaglutide pill the next day.

Its own outsourcing facility had a letter that is now closed. MedisourceRx in Los Alamitos, California, a 503B facility Hims & Hers bought in 2024, received an FDA warning letter on December 12, 2025, for failing to report an adverse event. The FDA closed it out on July 27, 2026.

The brand-name drugs Hims sells are FDA-approved. Compounded semaglutide is still offered "on a limited scale" when a provider finds it clinically necessary. The bigger question with any compounded program is the drug itself. Compounded GLP-1s are prepared by a pharmacy to a prescription. They are not FDA-approved: the FDA doesn't review their safety, effectiveness or quality before they're sold, and they are not the same as Wegovy or Zepbound. Formulas can differ from one pharmacy to the next, and some add ingredients such as vitamin B12. Compounding pharmacies are licensed and inspected by state boards of pharmacy; outsourcing facilities (503B) also register with the FDA and are inspected by it. The FDA can issue warning letters when either breaks rules on safety or sterility.

FDA warning letterSep 9, 2025No closeout published
Selling a drug the FDA has not approved

The FDA says the company sold a drug that it has never approved for sale in the United States. Compounded semaglutide is the usual example: a compounded drug is legal to prescribe in specific circumstances, but it has not been through FDA approval, and selling it like an approved product is what the agency objects to.

“The following claims concerning your compounded semaglutide products appear on your website: “Same active ingredient as Ozempic and Wegovy” “Clinically proven ingredients” Compounded drug products are not FDA-approved. Your claims imply that your products are the same as an FDA-approved product when they are not.”

Filed July 29, 2026 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California (3:26-cv-07871). The FTC alleges Hims & Hers charges consumers for prescriptions almost immediately after they submit an intake form, made cancelling hard, and shared health information with advertising platforms. What does an FDA letter mean?

A warning letter asks a company to fix something. It is not a recall, it does not suspend a license, and it is the FDA’s position rather than a court’s finding.

How to cancel Hims

Cancellation
Cancel anytime
Money-back guarantee
No money-back guarantee. A membership month is not refunded, and medication is not refunded once it ships. A first medication order is refunded if you cancel within 48 hours of paying.

To cancel a Hims subscription, use the app or your account under "My Subscriptions", the help center, or the phone line, 1-800-368-0038. Cancel at least two days before your next billing date, or the next month is charged. The terms also say "Your first renewal may be charged early to prevent any discontinuity in treatment."

The refund rule is strict. Hims does not refund a partly used membership month or medication period, and medication is not refunded once it has shipped. A medication plan is refunded only if you cancel a first order within 48 hours of paying, or a renewal at least two days before it bills.

Canceling the membership also cancels the medication plan. Canceling only the medication leaves the $149 membership running. Check both lines on your account after you cancel. If you have side effects, talk to your provider.

What customers say about Hims

Hims has a 2.9 TrustScore on Trustpilot from about 9,600 reviews, covering all its products, not only weight loss. 38% are five stars and 29% are one star. The one-star reviews describe trouble canceling, charges customers did not expect, and delayed refills. Hims invites reviews and replies to almost every negative one.

On the Better Business Bureau, Hims & Hers Inc. has no letter rating and 4,521 complaints in the last three years. The profile carries a notice about the FTC lawsuit.

The weight-loss stories on Hims's pages come with the line "Customers may have been compensated." They are marketing, not results you can expect. This site collects no independent reviews of its own yet.

How we scored Hims

Our score combines seven checks. Each one counts for a fixed share of the total, listed below. Commission is not an input.

  • Price transparency: 7.8/10 (counts for 20% of the total score). The membership and each drug's starting price are published. We take a point off because no price above the starting dose is published.
  • Cost and value: 8/10 (counts for 15% of the total score). Among the programs we compare that bill the drug separately, the $149 fee ranks first of two, at the median. The drug is billed on top at the makers' own starting prices, so the fee buys no saving on the drug.
  • Medication and pharmacy traceability: 7/10 (counts for 15% of the total score). The pharmacies are named, but without the addresses we need to match them to FDA records.
  • Clinical access and oversight: 7/10 (counts for 15% of the total score). Monthly check-ins and unlimited messaging are written into the terms; no clinician is named and no review time is given.
  • Safety and enforcement: 5.3/10 (counts for 20% of the total score). An open FDA warning letter and a pending FTC lawsuit. We take a further half point off for the FDA's February 2026 statement and the referral to the Justice Department, which have no published outcome.
  • Terms, commitment and refunds: 9/10 (counts for 10% of the total score). Cancel anytime, with no minimum term. We take a point off because the first renewal can be charged early and no part of a month is refunded.
  • Availability and fulfillment: 5.3/10 (counts for 5% of the total score). Hims says its GLP-1s are "not yet available in all 50 states" and lists none.

This is the first score for Hims. Confidence is low: hims.com blocks automated reads, so we read its pages from the Internet Archive and could not run our usual page checks. Three of the seven checks carry an editor's adjustment, explained above; our method caps the combined effect, which lowers the total by 0.4. The method is on our methodology page.

Hims FAQ

Hims & Hers is a publicly traded telehealth company, and its weight-loss menu lists only FDA-approved GLP-1s.18 It has an open FDA warning letter dated September 9, 2025, about claims for compounded semaglutide, a pending FTC lawsuit filed July 29, 2026, about billing, cancellation and health data, and a Justice Department referral announced February 6, 2026, with no published outcome.4718 See the legit section.

Three actions are open. The FTC, Utah and California sued Hims & Hers on July 29, 2026, alleging hidden charges after the intake form, hard canceling and health data shared with advertising platforms; Hims & Hers disputes them.7 On February 6, 2026, the FDA named Hims & Hers among companies mass-marketing compounded GLP-1s, and the Department of Health and Human Services said it would refer the company to the Justice Department.518 The FDA warning letter of September 9, 2025, about claims for compounded semaglutide, has no published close-out.4

The membership is $39 for the first month, then $149 a month, and the GLP-1 is billed on top: from $149 a month for the Wegovy, Foundayo or Ozempic pill, $199 for the Wegovy or Ozempic pen, and $299 for Zepbound.1 At the starting dose, that is $298, $348 or $448 a month in all.1 See the cost section.

The Wegovy pill Hims sells is Novo Nordisk's FDA-approved drug, available through Hims since March 26, 2026, from $149 a month plus the membership.161 The Foundayo pill is also FDA-approved for weight loss.1 The $49 compounded semaglutide pill Hims launched in February 2026 was withdrawn on February 7.18

No. Hims is a telehealth company, not a drug; Ozempic is Novo Nordisk's semaglutide, approved for type 2 diabetes, and Hims's providers may prescribe it off-label.1 For weight loss, Hims also prescribes Wegovy, the semaglutide approved for weight loss.1 The FDA's 2025 letter objected to Hims describing its compounded semaglutide as "Same active ingredient as Ozempic and Wegovy": compounded semaglutide is not the same product as Ozempic or Wegovy, and it is not FDA-approved.421

Hims prescribes FDA-approved drugs, and their results come from the makers' trials, not from Hims.1 Hims publishes no results of its own, and the weight-loss stories on its pages carry the line "Customers may have been compensated."1 A provider decides whether a drug fits you and adjusts the dose.13

It depends on what you want the $149 a month for. Hims charges the makers' own starting prices for the drug, $149 for the Wegovy pill and $299 for Zepbound, so the membership buys the care: monthly check-ins, unlimited messaging and dose changes, not a cheaper drug.131920

We have not reviewed Ro, so we have no checked Ro price to set beside Hims's. At Hims, the drug costs the maker's own starting cash price and the $149 membership comes on top.11920 Compare any program on both lines, the drug and the fee, at your dose.

No. Hims does not bill insurance, and the membership is not covered.13 The medication fee is FSA and HSA eligible; the membership fee is not.1

Cancel in the app under "My Subscriptions", through the help center, or by calling 1-800-368-0038, at least two days before your next billing date.3 Canceling the medication plan alone leaves the membership running.3 See the cancel section.
